Dpending were you fish in the uk  diffrent baits work well in some ares and not in other's i live in essex so i mostly fish thames estery sussex and kent  down this area lug worm  rag worm  squid  sand eels when you can get them  hermit crab for boat fishing smoth hound etc peller crab is great for beach fishing .its ok have the baits but it the way you present them as certain fish will only feed on certain baits were as other's will eat most types of baits ie whiting will eat most type of baits the same as doggies were as bass tend to be more choosy

 

Squid is a good all round bait  either fishing whole on a pennel or strips to top of a worm etc  whole baits for cod,bass ,doggies  strips for bream whiteing etc when topping  the worm

 

you can buy these frozen  of fresh  at the right time of the year( summer months )

these eels  are great for targerting bass i have found it best to use a pennel rig as the bass tend to bite the body of behind the head

 

a great all round bait  either whole as a flapper when on a boat to catch conger

or strips /cocktails to catch most fish  i tend to bag up on these in the summer month,s and freez them for the winter month's

 

 

cuttle fish

used in large strips for cod  and smaller strips for whiting i like to use cuttle for beach fishing for whiting as being that much thicker its hard for them to strip of the hook  and still a cheap bait to buy  ( note very inky and stains  if out on a chartet boat ask the skipper first if its ok to use it as some skippers dont like it on there boats )

 

 

Lug worm

good for shore fishing /boat  good all round bait i use it for bream fishing toped with a very small peice of squid  or when on shore toped with squis for dabs ,sole,whiting and of course the pout love it !!! i prefer fresh as once frozen some go very mashy once in the water .good winter bait

 

rag worm

rag worm is a summer bait and there are lots of diffrent types  maddies to king  i tend to usr king when on the boat toped with squid to stop them being taken to quick  great for bass and even the odd smoth hound

 

 

razor fish

i find this hard to get hold of were i go fishing but you can buy it frozen  good for cod as a cocktail  with lug etc beach fishing strips as squid are good for most flat fish

 

 

 

i have used this  with some good results when fishing the shore for bass  but make sure it is presented well with a lot of elastic to hold the bait on or you will use a lot of them and if your buying them can be expencive

 

other baits

 

 shrimp, cockles ,limpits etc i have tried  which is handy if you gone for a days fishing at the spur of the moment get there at low tide and find your own bait etcor dig your own worm .
